International Women's Day Lunch with a group of accomplished & diverse women to share their stores and discuss the theme, Count Her In

Join the Bunbury Geographe CCI, South West Development Commission and Creative Tech Village for an International Women's Day Lunch.

We are excited to be bringing a group of accomplished & diverse women to share their stores and discuss this years' theme, Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress.

Our two keynotes for the day are:

  • Professor Cobie Rudd - Opening Keynote

Professor Cobie Rudd is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Regional Futures) and Vice-President at Edith Cowan University (ECU) and is focused on increasing engagement opportunities in regional, rural, and remote Western Australia to advance education and research that meet industry needs. Professor Rudd is also the Head of ECU South West, including ECU’s Bunbury campus, the largest regional campus in Western Australia and a series of learning hubs.

Professor Rudd leads ECU’s Athena Swan initiative, the only internationally recognised framework for gender equity, diversity and inclusion accreditation. Under her leadership, ECU achieved the Athena Swan Bronze Institutional Award in December 2018 and the first Athena Swan Cygnet Award in Australia in August 2022. The University is now the first institution in WA to receive five out of five Athena Swan SAGE Cygnet Awards on the pathway towards an Athena Swan Silver Institutional Award. Professor Rudd was welcomed as a CEO for Gender Equity in October 2021 and in March 2023, she was inducted into the WA Women’s Hall of Fame.

  • Professor Lyn Beazley AO - Closing Keynote

Few names are as well known in the world of Western Australian science as Professor Lyn Beazley AO. In 2006, Lyn became WA's first ever Chief Scientist and served in this role until 2013, championing gender diversity along with a legacy of science outreach initiatives. Lyn is an energetic and passionate advocate for accessible education and career pathways through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).

She helped establish a nationwide ‘hotline’ for school laboratory technicians, worked for healthier waterways by establishing Dolphin Watch, spearheaded a program supplying microscopes to over 450 primary schools and introduced the international science communication competition Famelab to Australia. Lyn was part of the negotiating team that ensured Australia would co-host the Square Kilometre Array of radio-telescopes, the world’s largest science endeavour. Her amazing achievements have seen Lyn inducted into the WA Science Hall of Fame and the WA Women’s Hall of Fame. She has received Honorary Doctorates from Edith Cowan University, Monash, Murdoch and UWA and the Australian National University. In 2015, Lyn was named the WA Australian of the Year and awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia for services to medical science.
