Koombana Bay was re-opened the weekend prior to Christmas ​much to the delight of community members, families and visitors to Bunbury, with kids and adults alike enjoying the new playground, grassed and landscaped areas and getting back to Koombana Beach just in time for the Holiday break.
The new playground boasts a double cable ride and water play elements is part of the Koombana Foreshore revitalisation project that was completed on December 22. The playground is one of the highlights of the project and is expected to be a drawcard for families, who will have vastly improved facilities to enjoy at the popular beach.
LotteryWest have contributed almost $600,000 to this amazing playground, which includes:
• A double cable ride 40m in length;
• Tramp playground, with trampolines embedded into the play area;
• A 5m bridge net with climbing nets leading to two playground towers;
• Water and sand play including a water mill, water trough, water basin and water table;
• A rain circle, which is shaped like a ship’s wheel;
• Double swing set, which includes spider web apparatus;
There will also be rubber soft fall underfoot, shade sails, lots of seating and room for kids to run around in the almost 1000 square metre play space directly adjacent to the beach.
Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said he was looking forward to residents and visitors alike being able to enjoy the revamped foreshore, with work being carried out as part of the Transforming Bunbury Waterfront initiative.
“This is going to be an amazing space where everyone can enjoy our beautiful beach in surroundings that are expected of a significant city such as Bunbury,†Mr Brennan said.
“Not only am I looking forward to seeing everyone getting back into the protected waters of Koombana Bay, but I am excited to see new elements such as the playground that give people even more reason to visit.â€
