CEO Update

With borders opening at the end of this week, COVID-19 changes and updates continue to colour our lives and keep us on our toes.

BGCCI are committed to keeping our members up to date with State Government announcements as soon as they are released. If you have any questions about the new requirements, please reach out to our team.

BGCCI are aligned with general business sentiment and have taken measures to ensure that Chamber House, our activities and the events we host are managed in accordance with all current guidelines and restrictions. During this period, wherever possible BGCCI will make available online resources so that our community can remain connected to the services we provide.

BGCCI is committed to protecting the health and wellbeing of our members who represent such a vital contingent within our community. As a licensed venue, the team have implemented a safety management plan and policy which includes the requirement for all visitors and attendees to the Chamber to present evidence of their COVID-19 vaccination certificate. Business After Hours Events for the foreseeable future will only proceed if a suitable outdoor location has been identified.

The start of 2022 has already seen bushfires impact our community and ravage our landscape, families and livelihoods across the South West. BGCCI acknowledge the support and dedication of all our services and volunteers who supported the efforts to protect our impacted communities.

With the introduction of further restrictions Retail, Hospitality, Events and Tourism businesses across the region have taken a hit. BGCCI encourage our members to follow safety protocols and restrictions and importantly, to continue to support our local businesses wherever possible. These businesses are at the heart of our community and the lifeblood of our economy. #luvyalocal

Many small businesses in our community have certainly been doing it tough over the last 18 months. While some might say that it’s never been a better time to be in business, others have been dealing with staffing and labour shortages, supply chain delays and issues, as well as constant changes in legislation, COVID mandates and restrictions. For some businesses it’s like trying to drink from a firehose. When you’re a small business and one of these situations occur it can be overwhelming, when all three are happening in the midst of such a fast-paced economy it can drive teams and businesses to breaking point. Social conditions are also difficult, businesses must implement new requirements and community feedback and customer interactions aren’t always agreeable or kind.

Over the coming months BGCCI will make available resources, workshops, seminars, and events to support our members to navigate their businesses and build mentally healthy and fit workplaces. With so much information out there, we will ensure that these resources and tools are effective, practical and easy to implement in your business. Small changes can have huge benefits.
