Autotech Bunbury is a locally owned, family-run automotive business that has built a strong reputation across the South West for being reliable, honest, and easy to deal with. Offering end-to-end automotive support through mechanical servicing, roadside assistance, and towing, Autotech Bunbury supports customers at every stage of their journey, whether in the workshop, on the roadside, or during a stressful breakdown.
Operating for more than a decade, the business began as a small mechanical workshop focused on insurance repairs, servicing, and providing straightforward, honest advice. As demand grew, so did the scope of services. Autotech Bunbury expanded into roadside breakdown support and towing, becoming an RAC Roadside Assistance contractor for the region. Today, the business delivers three integrated service streams: full mechanical repairs and diagnostics, reliable towing across the region, and on-call roadside assistance for batteries, tyres, fuel emergencies, lockouts, and minor repairs.
Despite this growth, the business has remained grounded in its family values. The team is close-knit, communication is clear, and systems and procedures are designed to support both staff wellbeing and customer confidence. Genuine care for people underpins every part of the operation, a quality that has helped Autotech Bunbury earn the trust of the local community and industry alike.
The journey has not been without challenges. Like many small business owners, the founders entered business seeking independence and flexibility, only to discover the reality of long hours, responsibility, and hard lessons. Rather than stepping back, they leaned in. The business invested in external mentors and business coaches, adopted continuous improvement practices, and committed to doing things properly rather than quickly. Training, compliance, and the right tools became non-negotiables.
What truly sets Autotech Bunbury apart is the depth of expertise within the team, particularly in European vehicles. Significant investment has been made in specialised diagnostic equipment and technical training that is not commonly available in the region. This allows the team to confidently handle complex jobs others may turn away, reinforcing their reputation for quality workmanship and technical excellence.
Winning a Business Excellence Award in 2024 was a major milestone, recognising both the quality of service and the culture behind it. Rather than slowing down, the team used that momentum to lift standards even further. In the past year, Autotech Bunbury secured another major contract for its roadside services, expanded its workforce, and refined its internal structure to better support operational growth. Long-term planning has also been a focus, with the business making strategic decisions to support future capacity and sustainability, while carefully managing what is shared publicly.
Operationally, the business has embraced innovation. New point-of-sale software is being trialled to streamline workflows and remove bottlenecks, improving efficiency for staff and creating a smoother customer experience. Customer satisfaction surveys have been introduced, providing direct feedback that informs service improvements and strengthens relationships. Internally, team development has been prioritised through regular open training sessions, structured cross-training, and the celebration of key milestones such as apprentice graduations. These initiatives reinforce a culture of growth, recognition, and shared accountability.
Marketing remains deliberately local and authentic. Managed in-house, Autotech Bunbury combines social media, website updates, local newspaper advertising, and community engagement to maintain visibility. Participation in road safety initiatives and community pitstop projects reflects the business’s commitment to giving back. With close to 30 RAC breakdown jobs attended daily, reliability and responsiveness remain core to the brand. The majority of new customers continue to come through word-of-mouth referrals, a clear indicator of trust and satisfaction.
The team focuses on showing up, doing quality work, supporting one another, and helping others in the industry when asked. That mindset has shaped a business known for integrity, capability, and consistency. It is this combination of strong values, operational excellence, and genuine community connection that saw Autotech Bunbury recognised in the the 2025 Bunbury Geographe Business Excellence Awards.
