Innovation in WA is happening everywhere - in startups, scaleups and stayups.
Indeed, WA is the global leader in remote autonomous operations, has the biggest robot in the world and creates innovations across the board from health, medtech, agritech, food & beverage, renewables, circular, green tech and services.
So what, you might ask?
A well accepted definition of innovation is creating new value in new ways.
And it is that new value, when well commercialised, can result in real business value. Many businesses and individuals have benefited from having an innovative mindset and actioning those new ways to create new value.
And who is getting a share in that new value are those in the know – the entrepreneurs/founders, business owners and those aware and active investors (typically high net worth/sophisticated investors).
Those not in the know miss out.
So the question remains, how do you get your share in WA’s innovation?
One way is investing in innovation.
Clearly the earlier the venture begins innovating a new idea the higher the risk (and sometimes the higher the return) but a well disciplined, balanced and diversified approach to investing can manage the risk, scale more successful businesses, generate returns and create impacts for the State, our local community and improve the economy for our future generations.
Getting in on the know starts with building an awareness of the trends in innovation, knowledge of where these innovations are created, commercialised and when and where certain risks are taken out and what platforms are available to buy your share that matches the risk/reward profile you choose to accept.
INVESTinWA has been purposely built as a comprehensive investor education program designed to build a pipeline of informed and engaged investors ready to participate in Western Australia’s innovation economy.
Whether just starting out or looking to expand a portfolio, the program seeks to empower individuals to explore opportunities, build capability, connect and grow, and invest with confidence.
Through the INVESTinWA seminar series it helps a assess strengths, gaps, and preferences to shape a personal investment thesis — a guardrail to guide choices where and how to get a share in WA’s innovation.
INVESTinWA introduces a road map to the diverse range of centres of innovation in Western Australia - where deals are created and developed - as well as a road map to the various investment platforms that may be used to buy a share in innovation.
The program is delivered by experts with a deep experience in innovation investing as well as specialists to discuss finance & tax issues and legal agreement considerations.
In September 2025, there will be the INVESTinWA Showcase, where in one venue, people will be able engage with range of WA’s centres of innovation (where deals get developed) from those researching new innovative ideas through to those supporting scaling innovative-driven established SMEs across a variety of sectors from life sciences to agritech, as well as a range of investment platforms (where transactions get done) from those focussed on commercialised university research, those focussed on sustainability businesses through to listed companies.
