As we approach Christmas and the holiday season, many of us are beginning to feel the familiar mix of anticipation and busyness. In my own household, the end of the school year is the signal that it’s time to get organised, buying gifts, planning Christmas lunch, and preparing for the break ahead.
It’s also an incredibly important time for our local retailers. Many are rostering extra staff, increasing stock, and working hard to ensure our community has everything it needs. Where possible, supporting local businesses - people we know, trust, and work withthroughout the year makes a real difference.
I’ll admit I’m not much of a shopper myself, but I’m always impressed by what our Chamber team, particularly Nicole and Amy, manages to source locally for hampers and gifts for our speakers and partners. Recently, we brought together a beautiful selection featuring wine from the Geographe wine region, olive oil from Boyanup, dried fruit from Donnybrook, and beef jerky from Eaton. It’s a reminder of the remarkable diversity and quality produced right here! When you take a closer look, you may be surprised by just how much is available on our doorstep.
For our retailers, especially those in our town centres such as Bunbury, we continue to explore ways to attract more activity and trade into the CBD. Next week, the Chamber will host a workshop to generate ideas for new events and activations, with the aim of rolling out initiatives in the new year. If you’d like to contribute your thoughts or attend the event, I welcome you to contact me directly at ceo@bgcci.com.au.
Another initiative that we're currently inviting Expressions of Interest for is our annual CEO Roundtable series. This invitation-only program brings together senior local leaders for confidential, high-value monthly discussion held under the Chatham House rule. Participants gain deeper connections with peers, practical insights to support organisational growth, and the opportunity to learn from shared experiences. Sessions feature expert guest speakers presenting current leadership and industry insights to strengthen your capability. Hear what some of this year's partricipants had to say in the below video.
