CEO Update

Over the weekend we welcomed WA Premier Roger Cook and his Cabinet to Bunbury as part of their Community Cabinet session.

We were also pleased to host Minister Jackie Jarvis MLC at Chamber House for a discussion on local business. As the Minister for Small Business, she highlighted the current Small Business Growth Grant, offering $10,000 in matched funding to help owners invest in services that support growth. You can check your eligibility here: Small Business Growth Grant FAQs.

Visitors to Chamber House will also notice an illustration of the proposed redevelopment of Bicentennial Square. The concept is designed to attract more visitors and strengthen the connection between the square and the waterfront. These plans are now open for community consultation.

A big thank you to St John WA for hosting this month’s Business After Hours and reminding us of the critical role first aid plays in both workplaces and the community. Their South Bunbury training centre offers excellent corporate training, supplies, and specialist programs, including First Aid for Mental Health - a growing priority in today’s workplaces.

Looking ahead, our October Business After Hours will feature a new format: Meet the Members. This shared event will give 4–6 businesses the chance to showcase their services at Chamber House, ideal for members without the space to host larger crowds. Expressions of interest are now open, with the event scheduled for Wednesday 29 October. To learn more, email events@bgcci.com.au.

Finally, we invite employers to contribute to our discussions on skills of the future. BGCCI regularly meets with educators and stakeholders to explore labour market trends and future workforce needs. We’d like to include 1–2 employers at each meeting on a rotating basis. If you’re interested in sharing your perspective, please get in touch. The next meeting will be held in Bunbury on October 23.

As always, we welcome your thoughts and feedback on what you need and what we can do better.

Sean
